Faith is like going to the gym and working out--it's something you have to keep at. And for a while, I quit the gym; I quit the church.

I worked in youth ministry in South Carolina before I moved to Madison to be a co-anchor on 27 News Wake Up Wisconsin. When I got here, I knew no one and had no community. I'd still listen to podcasts and do things like that, but it just wasn't the same as going to church and being in community with faithful servants. Despite how much I loved what I was doing on the show, I was miserable; I missed my family and wanted to move back home.

When I came to the 9:30 service at Blackhawk Brader Way for the first time, it just happened to be the same week that Pastor Chris said there was a need for Student Ministries volunteers. I've been a part of the Waunakee High School Homegroup ever since. I'm a big believer in relational ministry. Growing up, the people who invested in me in that way made a big difference in my life. When I started out with my guys in Waunakee, it felt like I was serving them, but now, I see how much I’ve received from them as well. They fill my cup every week. It’s a win-win for me. Through Blackhawk, for the first time in my adult life, I've been able to engage in my love for ministry while doing a job that I also love.
